FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Falcons receiver Julio Jones has waited 11 months to return from a broken right foot and regain his Pro Bowl form. Now that its just three days until Atlanta opens the season against New Orleans, Jones says hes ready to wreak havoc on the Saints secondary. "I was down last year. I wasnt there to help my teammates," Jones said on Thursday. "I feel great, man. I feel like Im 100 per cent right now." Jones season ended after five games last year, at which he point he led the NFL in catches and ranked second in yards receiving. Losing Jones, the No. 6 overall draft choice of 2011, was a huge blow, and the Falcons finished 4-12. Quarterback Matt Ryan suffered behind a porous offensive line and was limited in the passing attack with tight end Tony Gonzalez drawing double coverage and receiver Roddy White playing with a sore hamstring. Though Gonzalez retired, Atlanta likes its chances against the Saints defence with Jones and White back together on the field. They were one of four pair of receivers two years ago to each have at least 1,000 yards receiving, and the Falcons finished 10 yards shy of the Super Bowl. Jones job will be to draw double coverage on deep routes and exploit one-on-one matchups when theyre presented on quick slant routes. Ryan also will give receivers Harry Douglas and Devin Hester chances in the passing attack. "I expect to have double coverage, you know?" Jones said. "If not, Im going to go out there and make some plays and make something happen. But Ive got to take my job seriously in those situations. I cant go out there and take plays off because Im not getting the ball. Ive still got to go out there and run full speed to try and draw that coverage." The Saints have undergone a bit of a makeover in the secondary with the departures of Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins. New Orleans biggest move in free agency was signing Jairus Byrd and pairing him at safety with Kenny Vaccaro, a first-round pick last year. Patrick Robinson and Keenan Lewis return at cornerback. "We played (Byrd against) Buffalo last year," Ryan said. "We know the kind of range he has, the kind of ball skills he has. Thats a huge addition for them. The addition of him, along with the way their front seven plays, makes that secondary tough to go against." Jones is eager for the Falcons, who have routinely struggled against the Saints in six years under coach Mike Smith, to avenge last years season opening loss in New Orleans. "Were just going to get a win out of the way," Jones said. "We win, and were up in the division, but weve got see where were at. Last year was a season wed like to have (back), and weve just got to go out this season and start over." White feels as if Atlanta is in better shape mentally and emotionally with the first game quickly approaching. That wasnt the case so much last year as the Falcons seemed to believe the hype that they were Super Bowl-bound. "We kind of like our position and where were at," White said. "We can just go out there and play. We have no pressure on us, no Super Bowl aspirations and stuff like that and then you have to go out there and win nine, 10 games in a row. But this is a very important game. We have to get off to a good start." Atlantas offensive line faces a tough challenge in holding back a stout Saints defence that had 49 sacks, the leagues fourth-highest total. "Their line will put pressure on your quarterback," Jones said. "Their very athletic in the secondary. Weve just got to pick our spots and connect on them." And New Orleans coach Sean Payton knows his team cant take its eyes off Jones. "Hes got great athleticism and very, very good hands," Payton said. "When you put together his speed and size and obviously athleticism, youve got to be mindful of where he is on each play." The judge has not yet ruled on prosecutor Gerrie Nels application that the court considers a period of mental evaluation for the world-famous runner. Dr. Merryll Vorster, a psychiatrist called by the defence, testified that a series of events in Pistorius turbulent life, including the amputation of his lower legs as a baby, his parents divorce, his late mothers habit of sleeping with a gun under her pillow and his own fear of violent crime contributed to his "increasing stress." "Overall, Mr. Pistorius appears to be a mistrustful and guarded person," Vorster testified. She said he has "many features of anxiety." Vorster said Pistorius anxiety combined with his physical disability may have caused him to act differently from other people when he shot four times through a toilet stall door in the early hours of Feb. 14, 2013, killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius, 27, claims he mistook Steenkamp for a dangerous intruder when he shot her with his licensed 9 mm pistol in the pre-dawn hours. Prosecutors say he killed the 29-year-old model after an argument and shot in anger and not fear last Valentines Day. Pistorius chief lawyer Barry Roux said at the start of defence-led testimony that the double amputees vulnerability and disability was at the centre of his case of a mistaken killing. But prosecutor Nel questioned Monday if Pistorius was merely trying one of a number of defences for shooting his girlfriend. "There must be some reason why Mr. Roux decided to call this witness. It might be the third defence that we have," Nel said. Pistorius, the first amputee to run at the Olympics, testified at his trial that he fired his gun accidentally at the toilet door. That aappeared to contradict his initial statement in court documents last year that he shot in self-defence because he believed his life was in danger.dddddddddddd Nel said if Pistorius had genuine anxiety issues, Judge Thokozile Masipa should order him to be evaluated. Responding to a question from a reporter after the trial was adjourned, Pistorius said "Go read the law." As the athlete sat in the Pretoria courtroom earlier Monday making notes and occasionally looking up at the witness stand, Vorster outlined his apparently unhappy childhood and a life story in contrast to the smiling, triumphant disabled runner who made history at the London Olympics in 2012. Vorsters testimony raised the question of whether Pistorius was now claiming "diminished responsibility" for the shooting, Nel said, because of a possible mental illness. Nel also asked the psychiatrist if someone who was suffering from such an anxiety disorder, and had access to guns, would be a danger to society. Vorster said the person would, indeed, be a danger. Vorsters testimony came at the start of the eighth week of the globally televised trial, and a day before Pistorius defence had predicted it might wrap up its case. It now appears unlikely that the defence will rest Tuesday. The prosecutions cross-examination of the psychiatrist could continue on day 31 of proceedings after Nel asked for more time to look at her report on Pistorius. Vorster reached her opinion after meeting with Pistorius on two occasions this month, and also from interviews with his family, friends and agent, she said. Pistorius and his brother and sister "were reared to see their external environment as threatening," Vorster said, and this played a part in his actions on the night of the shooting. Vorster said Pistorius was more likely to try and "fight" what he thought was an intruder than run away, because his disability meant it was harder for him to flee. Pistorius was on his stumps when he shot Steenkamp.
